The Sterile Processing Technician program is designed for individuals interested in processing surgical instrumentation. Work alongside health care professionals with supervision in a hospital and surgery centers' surgical instrumentation central processing department. Process and sterilize medical equipment, learn infection control, supply ordering, and equipment management and inventory. Earn $11-14/hour with advancement opportunities. This program prepares students for national certification through CBSPD or the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution. Upon completing the certification exam, students will receive the CSPDT or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician credential. A clear SLED background report is required to enroll in this program, and an externship is available upon successful program completion. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of the central sterile processing technician is expected to grow 14 percent nationally, much faster than the average, through 2024. * Employment opportunities for central sterile processing technicians are expected to be excellent due to increased needs within the healthcare industry and a larger and older population. *Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2016-2017 Edition, Medical Equipment Preparers, on the Internet at http://www.bls.gov/ooh/about/data-for-occupations-not-covered-in-detail.htm#Healthcare Occupations
