Ophthalmic Medical Assistant
The Ophthalmic Medical Assistant course blends fundamental medical and scientific information and basic ophthalmology/optometry practical skills to prepare students for current workforce requirements. Students are trained in basic computer skills, knowledge of patient services, basic skills and lensometry, basic tonometry, instrument maintenance and general medical background. Included in the course are 90 hours devoted to a core curriculum consisting of classroom work with practical laboratories and 80 hours of clinical experience. Students will be supervised but are expected to become members of the patient care team. Upon successful completion of the course, students will sit for the national certification exam.
