Healthcare Specialist students are required to obtain their CNA Certification, Medication Technician and Basic Phlebotomy Certificates of completion to excel in this program. Students will learn the basics of being a Nursing Assistant and are also prepared to administer medications in state approved teaching hospitals, disability homes, prisons, and assisted living facilities. Students also gain the knowledge and skill set to safely perform venous & capillary blood draws. The topics included in the program of study are patient care, safety, professional responsibilities, infection control, phlebotomy, and medication administration and monitoring. A student must be 17 years of age prior to enrollment and must have completed at least the 8th grade course of study and be able to provide an official transcript confirming the last year of completion. A high school diploma/GED is preferred.

Partnership with a skilled nursing facility (White Oak Manor & Pruitt Health) for nursing assistant students to complete the required clinical. Due to Covid-19 Pandemic and SC DHHS consent, students complete 40-hour required clinical training onsite at NLHIC. Partnership with adult education for level 3 and 4 students who are interested in healthcare as a continuing career pathway. Additional partnerships include Carolina Community Actions, Inc., which pays 100% tuition per class for qualified candidates based on available grant funding.
