Clinical Medical Assistant training prepares individuals under the supervision of a physician to provide medical office administrative services and perform clinical duties. A clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) is a multi-skilled health care professional that specializes in procedures commonly performed in the ambulatory health care setting. Clinical Medical Assistants perform both clinical and administrative duties. Students will learn technical skills and be detail-oriented, to ensure that all the patient’s data is accurately entered into their record. Clinical duties include but not limited to taking patient histories and vital signs, assisting with exams and procedures, administering certain injections as directed by the physician, performing EKGs, Phlebotomy, collecting specimens, performing CPR and First Aid, adhere to OSHA regulations, infection control, sterile technique, and cleaning the exam rooms.
Other areas include working in the electronic health record (EHR), HIPAA regulations, insurance fundaments, scheduling appointment, performing data entry, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. Clinical Medical Assistant can work in physicians’ offices, clinics, blood banks and more.
Clinical Medical Assistants will develop their soft skills, such as interpersonal skills so they can work with patients who may be in pain, and work with geriatric patients. This is a 249-hour program that will include clinical in one of our contracted medical facilities. Upon completion, the student will be awarded a Certificate of Completion and will be eligible to become certified through the National Health Career Association (NHA).
