Phlebotomy Technician
The Phlebotomy course will provide phlebotomy instruction to the student with a working knowledge of collecting blood and other specimens with emphasis on patient safety, quality assurance, and universal standard precautions. The class teaches individuals how to perform the following duties: Drawing blood from patients and blood donors, Evaluating patients' ability to withstand the procedure and helping them feel comfortable, Explaining blood-drawing procedure to patients and answering questions, Performing basic point-of-care testing, such as reading blood glucose levels, Preparing blood, urine and other specimens for testing, Maintaining medical equipment such as needles, test tubes and blood vials. The course utilizes lectures, clinical laboratory and demonstrated methodology. Upon successful completion of class, skills labs, and clinical the student will receive a certificate of completion. This course prepares the student for the National Health Career Association Certification Exam. For the CPT certification, you must be able to provide evidence that you have successfully performed a minimum of thirty (30) venipunctures and ten (10) capillary or finger sticks on live individuals. Local Clinical sites are available.
