PROGRAM LENGTH OPTIONS
• Accelerated 12-Week Option: Students complete the Pharmacy Technician program on an accelerated 12-week schedule.
• Standard 20-Week Option: Students complete the program over a standard 20-week schedule.
DELIVERY OPTIONS
• Hybrid Option: Students attend in-person instruction once per week on Tuesdays from 3:00 PM–6:00 PM. The remainder of assignments and coursework are completed online throughout the week.
• Fully Online Option: Students complete their instructional coursework online and complete the required Pharmacy Technician externship.
ONLINE STUDENT FLEXIBILITY
Students enrolled in the fully online option have the flexibility to work ahead in their coursework and complete assignments earlier than the scheduled due dates. Students are not required to wait until the scheduled week to complete available assignments.
Students who successfully complete their online coursework ahead of schedule may complete the academic portion of the program sooner. The required externship must still be successfully completed before the student is considered to have completed the entire program.
20-HOUR EXTERNSHIP REQUIREMENT
All Pharmacy Technician students are required to complete a 20-hour externship. Students begin the externship portion of the program during Week 7.
Students are responsible for securing their own approved externship site. Jacobs Medical Academy will provide the required externship documents for students to present to potential externship locations.
The externship provides students with an opportunity to gain practical experience in an appropriate pharmacy setting while completing their Pharmacy Technician training.
PROGRAM CURRICULUM
Students receive instruction in pharmacy terminology, prescription processing, pharmacy calculations, pharmacy law and ethics, medication safety, inventory procedures, pharmacy operations, and other essential pharmacy technician competencies.
PROGRAM COMPLETION
Students must successfully complete all required coursework and the required 20-hour externship to successfully complete the Pharmacy Technician Program.
Upon successful completion, students will have completed training designed to prepare them for entry-level pharmacy technician employment and the applicable national certification examination.
