Medical Administrative Assistant + Medical Billing & Coding Combination
Medical Administrative Assistant + Medical Billing & Coding Combo Program The Medical Administrative Assistant + Medical Billing & Coding Combo Program at Jacobs Medical Academy prepares students for entry-level careers in medical office administration, medical billing, medical coding, health insurance processing, and healthcare revenue cycle support. Students receive comprehensive training in both programs, allowing them to develop skills that can be used across a variety of healthcare administrative settings. COMBO PROGRAM SCHEDULING OPTIONS Students have the flexibility to complete both programs at the same time or complete one program first and begin the second program after successfully completing the first. MEDICAL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT PROGRAM OPTIONS The Medical Administrative Assistant program is offered as an Accelerated 13-Week Program or a Standard 20-Week Program. • Hybrid Option: Students attend class once per week on Wednesdays from 3:00 PM–6:00 PM. The remainder of assignments and coursework are completed online throughout the week. • Fully Online Option: Students complete their coursework online, providing flexibility for students who are unable to attend scheduled in-person classes. The Medical Administrative Assistant curriculum includes medical terminology, patient scheduling, telephone and front-office communications, patient registration, medical records, healthcare documentation, insurance and billing fundamentals, HIPAA and patient confidentiality, professionalism, customer service, and other essential medical office administrative skills. MEDICAL BILLING & CODING PROGRAM OPTIONS The Medical Billing & Coding program is offered as an Accelerated 12-Week Program or a Standard 20-Week Program. • Hybrid Option: Students attend scheduled in-person instruction once per week. The remainder of assignments and coursework are completed online throughout the week. • Fully Online Option: Students complete their coursework online, providing flexibility for students who are unable to attend scheduled in-person classes. The Medical Billing & Coding curriculum includes medical terminology, anatomy and physiology fundamentals, health insurance, claims processing, reimbursement procedures, medical billing, medical coding, healthcare documentation, electronic health records, HIPAA and patient confidentiality, and healthcare revenue cycle procedures. Students are introduced to the use and application of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding systems and learn how medical documentation supports accurate coding, billing, and insurance claim submission. ONLINE STUDENT FLEXIBILITY Students enrolled in the fully online option have the flexibility to work ahead in their coursework and complete assignments earlier than the scheduled due dates. Students are not required to wait until the scheduled week to complete available assignments. Students who successfully complete all required coursework and program requirements ahead of schedule may complete the academic portion of their program sooner. For students completing both programs online, this flexibility applies whether the student chooses to complete both programs at the same time or completes one program before beginning the second. COMBO PROGRAM COMPLETION Students must successfully complete all required coursework and program requirements associated with both the Medical Administrative Assistant and Medical Billing & Coding programs. Upon successful completion, students will have completed training designed to prepare them for entry-level employment opportunities in medical administrative assisting, medical billing, medical coding, health insurance processing, and related healthcare administrative positions, as well as the applicable national certification examinations.
