Phlebotomy Technician + Medical Administrative Assistant Combination
Phlebotomy Technician + Medical Administrative Assistant Combo Program
The Phlebotomy Technician + Medical Administrative Assistant Combo Program at Jacobs Medical Academy prepares students for entry-level careers in both phlebotomy and medical administrative settings. Students receive training in clinical phlebotomy skills as well as the administrative and professional skills needed to support patients, healthcare providers, and medical office operations.
COMBO PROGRAM SCHEDULING OPTIONS
Students have the flexibility to complete both programs at the same time or complete one program first and begin the second program after successfully completing the first.
PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN PROGRAM OPTIONS
• 5-Day Accelerated In-Person Option: Students attend class Monday through Friday for five consecutive days.
• Standard 8-Week In-Person Option: Students attend class once per week on Tuesdays for eight weeks.
• Standard 8-Week Fully Online + Externship Option: Students complete the instructional and coursework portion of the program online and complete a required hands-on externship.
Students enrolled in the fully online Phlebotomy option are required to complete a 20-hour externship and must begin their externship during Week 4 of the standard 8-week program.
Students are responsible for securing their own approved externship site. Jacobs Medical Academy will provide the required externship documents for students to present to potential externship locations.
The Phlebotomy Technician curriculum includes blood collection procedures, venipuncture and capillary collection concepts, patient identification and preparation, infection control, safety procedures, specimen handling and processing, professionalism, and other essential phlebotomy technician skills.
MEDICAL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT PROGRAM OPTIONS
The Medical Administrative Assistant portion is offered as an Accelerated 13-Week Program or a Standard 20-Week Program.
• Hybrid Option: Students attend in-person instruction once per week on Wednesdays from 3:00 PM–6:00 PM. The remainder of assignments and coursework are completed online throughout the week.
• Fully Online Option: Students complete their coursework online, providing flexibility for students who are unable to attend scheduled in-person classes.
The Medical Administrative Assistant curriculum includes medical terminology, patient scheduling, telephone and front-office communications, patient registration, medical records management, healthcare documentation, insurance and billing fundamentals, electronic health records, HIPAA and patient confidentiality, professionalism, customer service, and other essential medical administrative skills.
ONLINE STUDENT FLEXIBILITY
Students enrolled in the fully online option for either program have the flexibility to work ahead in their coursework and complete assignments earlier than the scheduled due dates. Students are not required to wait until the scheduled week to complete available assignments.
Students who successfully complete their online coursework ahead of schedule may complete the academic portion of their program sooner. Any required hands-on training, externship hours, or other program-specific requirements must still be successfully completed before the applicable program is considered complete.
This flexibility applies whether the student chooses to complete both programs at the same time or completes one program before beginning the second.
COMBO PROGRAM COMPLETION
Students must successfully complete all required coursework, practical requirements, and applicable externship requirements associated with both programs.
Upon successful completion, students will have completed training designed to prepare them for entry-level employment opportunities in both phlebotomy and medical administrative settings and for the applicable national certification examinations.
